Travel Grants

The Planetary Geology Division (PGD) of the Geological Society of America offers at least 3-4 travel grant(s) in the amount of $500 to help defray costs for PGD student members who are traveling to the GSA Annual Meeting to present first-authored papers.

Deadline to apply for the Annual Meeting Student Travel Grant:

Same date as GSA early meeting registration (2026: August 27)

  1. Download and complete the Travel Grant Application Form. All parts of the form must be filled out.
  2. Prepare a two-page CV and short (300-500 word) justification for why you need a travel grant from the PGD.
  3. Combine the application, two-page CV, and justification into a single PDF file.
  4. Email the complete application page to geosociety.pgd@gmail.com, attention PGD 2nd Vice-Chair.

Applicants for student travel awards must:

  1. Be first author and presenter of a talk (or poster) that has been submitted to and accepted for presentation at GSA Connects.
  2. Be a Student Member of both GSA and the Planetary Geology Division. Renew your membership here.
  3. Be registered for the meeting before applying for a travel grant. Visit the GSA Connects website to register for the meeting.

A student can only receive one GSA travel grant per meeting. You will be notified of your application status prior to GSA Connects. Checks will be mailed after the meeting. Travel grant recipients will be prerequired to staff the PGD booth during GSA Connects.
