Seeking EEGD members to serve on your Management Board

Are you interested in applying your leadership and geology experience to an organization that seeks to improve and promote applied geology? Would you like to give back to a volunteer-run organization? Are you interested in networking, collaboration, and student mentoring? EEGD is looking for GSA members interested in contributing some time and expertise to be a part of the EEGD Management Board!

The Environmental and Engineering Geology Division (EEGD) of the GSA is managed by five board members, one of which is a student representative. Every year, EEGD seeks interested and motivated members to self-nominate for an elected position on the board. EEGD board members each serve up to four, one-year terms, moving from secretary-treasurer, second vice-chair, first vice-chair, and finally to the chair. Board members oversee and manage of a variety of the events at the GSA Annual Meeting, such as mentoring events, symposia, networking events, technical sessions, and field trips. Past and present board members find the opportunity a rewarding experience and have made professional and personal connections within GSA, the discipline, and industry. All board members are asked to attend the GSA Annual Meeting during their time on the Management Board. In addition, during the final year as chair, you will be asked to attend a weekend at the GSA Chairs Meeting in Boulder CO, which is reimbursed by GSA.

The purpose of EEGD is to improve and promote the science of environmental and engineering geology. EEGD represents scientists interested in applying geological knowledge to solve real-world problems that affect human health and safety. EEGD consists of a diverse range of individuals: students, academics, and professional geologists from private industry and government agencies. The Division promotes research and education on an immense array of disciplines ranging from geologic hazards, hydrogeology, environmental geology, economic and mining geology, geoinformatics, geomechanics, remote sensing, and others. In addition, our Division honors students and professionals with numerous annual awards and scholarships, recognizing outstanding research and service within the EEGD community. EEGD is one of the largest divisions of GSA with over 1000 members. Our current Management Board is diverse, with backgrounds in industry, academia, and state government.

If you are interested in serving on the Management Board, please submit a one paragraph bio and one paragraph statement of interest (both can be written on a single page or included within the body of an email) to stephen.slaughter@.... If you have any questions about the position, please contact Stephen (EEGD chair) or any member of the Management Board. Please respond by 1 June.
