Scams Targeting GSA Members, Meeting Attendees and Exhibitors
Please note that the only legitimate GSA Connects 2022 meeting resources are found under the geosociety.org domain, including community.geosociety.org and rock.geosociety.org.
As the number of online transactions increases, so does the number of booking scams.
What You Should Know
We are seeing a rise in the number of companies targeting our members, attendees, and exhibitors with offers to provide attendee lists, meeting registration, hotel reservations, and exhibitor services.
Companies offering this information or contacting you have many web programs and search methods to eventually reach you via email or phone. Please know we have not had a data breach. These companies keep contacting a wide range of people until they eventually get to someone who responds. Please do not engage with, purchase, or click on any links that look suspicious. Oftentimes responding or unsubscribing to these emails confirms to them that they have reached a valid email address. These companies have also started to copy and create websites that are almost indistinguishable from the official meeting website.
What You Can Do
If you receive a solicitation from a third party or from any person or business that claims to be an authorized vendor or makes it seem as though they are affiliated with GSA, we ask that you forward the information on to meetings@geosociety.org.
We will post information to our website regarding the official meeting registration and housing bureau in June. The only official GSA vendors we currently have contracts with are Image Audiovisual, The Conference Exchange (Confex), Corcoran Exhibits, Freeman Companies, and Orchid.Events.
Identify Scammers
The companies identified in this scam include but may not be limited to (business names and email accounts change frequently) groups listed below. These companies do NOT have access to officially contracted attendee lists, meeting registration, or hotel room blocks.
