  • Stephen E. Laubach Structural Diagenesis Research Award

The Structural Geology and Tectonics and Sedimentary Geology Divisions of the Geological Society of America are accepting applications for the Stephen E. Laubach Structural Diagenesis Research Award.

A single PDF application is due by 1 May 2026.
This award supports research combining structural geology and diagenesis, including curriculum development in structural diagenesis. Graduate students, postgraduate researchers, and faculty are eligible.
More information on the award is found under out Awards tab! All applications may be submitted by email to devon.orme@montana.edu
Please reach out to Devon or other members of the SGT or Sedimentary Geology division boards if you have any questions.
  • Register for the 8th Biennial SGT Forum!

The SGT Forum is a grass-roots meeting of structural geology and tectonics researchers designed to advance research and training in our disciplines. The small meeting size, residential format, and shared meals foster community, networking, and mentoring from researchers at different institutions and across career stages.

Meeting information: The 8th Biennial Forum is taking place this summer at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota:

    • The meeting has three days of plenary sessions from 3-5 August with optional pre- and post-meeting events from 1-2 August and 6-7 August.
    • Optional field trips include the iconic Baraboo Hills in Wisconsin, the 3.55 Ga Morton gneiss in the Minnesota River Valley, and Midcontinent rift rocks along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
    • Optional workshops include the statistics of structural geology data, using art in geology teaching, early-career mentoring, StraboMicro, and a Strabo community session.

The topics of the plenary program tentatively include sessions about large-scale tectonics, deformation in the upper crust, rates and dates, experimental methods, geoscience education, and the societal relevance of our fields. Contributions about all topics are welcome; we’ll adjust the program to reflect the abstracts that are submitted.

    Registration details:

    • The Forum website has information on travel and lodging for the meeting as well as more details about the schedule.
    • Registration will open May 1.
    • Registration, food, and lodging costs are subsidized by generous funding from the National Science Foundation, the Structural Geology and Tectonics Division of GSA, and the Carleton College Geology Department.
Were looking forward to seeing you in Northfield, MN!
