    Expanded description

This session seeks to attract presentations from across geoscience, from education, to academia, to professional geology, to government, and everything in between and beyond!  The objective is to present examples of how new and important contexts for geoscience are shaping the work that we do, how we fund it, who we hire and who our collaborators are, how we communicate it, and to whom.  For example, geoscientists are

    • learning better ways to inform and engage listeners in classrooms, courtrooms, boardrooms, and other forums
    • responding to emerging issues around natural hazards and pollutants
    • finding new opportunities in energy, resources, and technologies motivated by global change
    • creating information, access, and employment for people in marginalized groups, including those migrating from wars and climate change.

Responding to rapid and unexpected change means thinking outside of boxes and being innovative.  This session is the place to share unconventional practices and business not-as-usual solutions -- your story of grappling with emerging issues may be just what other NEGSA members need to hear to take on their own challenges.
