T23. Hydrogeologic and Ecologic Monitoring and Assessment of Saline Lakes and Migratory Birds in the Great Basin
Here is a description:
"The USGS Saline Lakes Ecosystems Integrated Water Availability Assessment project has been working this past year on a new, cross-mission area, interdisciplinary Program focusing on the saline lakes ecosystems of the Great Basin. Saline lakes, or terminal lakes, and associated wetlands in the Great Basin provide migratory connectivity to waterbirds. However, these lake ecosystems are at a tipping-point. Water used for irrigation and public supply, coupled with increased evaporation and snowpack loss, has resulted in record low lake water levels and loss of wildlife habitats across the intermountain west. This session will focus on current hydrologic, ecologic, and wildlife monitoring and assessment activities being completed at saline lakes in the Great Basin."
