Announcements

  • Announcing three new initiatives!

QG&G Celebrates and Connects, QG&G Cares, QG&G Includes

    1. QG&G Celebrates and Connects: SAVE THE DATE! Oct 27, 8-10 pm EST

The Quaternary Geology & Geomorphology Division (QG&G) of GSA leadership has decided that coming together - even remotely - is one of the most important things we can offer our science community. In that spirit, we will host the “QG&G Networking and Awards Online Extravaganza!” during the annual GSA Connects Online meeting at our traditional time on Tuesday evening.

We will celebrate the 2020 awardees.  We will also have opportunities to meet new people and have fun with your QG&G friends and colleagues! Stay tuned for details.

Importantly, you will not have to register for the GSA conference in order to attend. So spread the word! Let’s make this biggest gathering of Quaternary Geologists and Geomorphologists in one ‘room’ ever!

    2. QG&G Cares: Application Here.

Your QG&G board wants to reach out to all parents and also to early career members - especially those from underrepresented groups - who might have an economic need to attend our upcoming virtual annual meeting of GSA in October.  Because we are not catering our annual awards event on Tuesday night (October 27, 2020), we will use that budgeted amount to help QG&G members who need financial assistance to attend the overall GSA meeting this year. We are following the model established by GSA earlier this year and calling this 'QG&G Cares'!

Some of you cannot attend the meeting because of costs to cover caregiving, you've lost your job, or have other financial stresses.   So, we encourage you to apply for this "scholarship" to pay for registration for the annual meeting, which is $200.  The application link is above.

IMPORTANT: Thanks to the generosity of GSA members, GSA Student Members will be able to register for GSA 2020 Connects Online at no cost - thus students should not apply to QG&G Cares

Not a GSA or QG&G member? Join now. Need financial assistance to cover the cost of membership? Apply for assistance.

    3. QG&G Includes: Provide Feedback or Volunteer to Help Here

QG&G has come a long way in a short time in improving its recognition of women in our field. Now we would like to do more for women, and for ALL other underrepresented groups. We are establishing a QG&G Includes Task Force to make a specific list of action items - within the scope of our particular organization - that QG&G will take on in order to increase its diversity and inclusivity. In other words, we are trying to avoid making a plan to plan; we would like to make a plan to do. We welcome volunteers for this task force as well as any ideas you may have for the action items.
