Today marks the 20th Anniversary of GSA's Geology and Society Division. Established by GSA Council on this day, May 3, 2003 the Division was created to serve GSA members with interests in matters of geoscience and societal concerns. From the G&SD By-Laws (Article I, Section 3):
"The purpose of the division is to strengthen, broaden, and support the engagement of GSA Members, Fellows, Honorary Fellows, Associates and Affiliates in those opportunities where the science of geology intersects with the social, economic, and policy interests of modern society. "
The Division Management Board has some special events planned to commemorate the occasion at the Annual Meeting this Fall - including a special topical session entitled "Geology and Society Division at 20: How Geology Shapes Society - Past, Present, and Future." Do you have some interesting research to present that might be germane to this forum? Please consider submitting an abstract.
And please join us in wishing Geology and Society Division a Happy 20th!
