  • CSD Mid-Career Award

    The CSD Division is requesting nominations for the inaugural Mid-Career Award, intended to recognize remarkable contributions made by our mid-career members. 

    Nominations and self-nominations are encouraged. The deadline for nominations is 4/1/2024 at 11:59pm EST.

    Competitive nominees for the Mid-Career Award include:

    • A mid-career scientists within 11-20 years of their terminal degree
    • Have made outstanding contributions to earth and environmental sciences using continental scientific drilling
    • Active member of the CSD Division

    The Mid-Career Award provides $7500, a commemorative plaque, and registration costs for the annual GSA meeting such that the awardee may attend the Division's annual business meeting for the presentation of the plaque and attend the CSD topical session as a keynote speaker.

  • Apply to be a Student Representative for CSD!

    Hi all!

    We are looking for a second Student Member Representative for the CSD Division! You do NOT have to be a member of the division at this time in order to apply-- this is open to any student member of GSA, regardless of division affiliation. It is a two-year commitment (1/2024 - 10/2025) and your primary responsibility will be to ensure that students' interests are well represented within the Division and to help promote the Division activities.

    Main responsibilities as a student representative include:

    • Managing the CSD Division website and social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, etc).
    • Helping to organize or propose field trips or short courses for the GSA annual meeting.
    • Organizing and leading student social events, symposia, workshops, and other activities.

    Students can apply directly or can nominate another student. Faculty, please encourage your students to apply for this opportunity! To apply, please email Brett M. Carpenter (brett.carpenter@ou.edu) or Mike McGlue (mmmc234@g.uky.edu) the following two items:

    • Brief statement (max. 100 words) explaining your interests in the position and what you would like to contribute to the Division.
    • Short CV indicating your past work/education, research/publication history, and any prior leadership and/or organizational experiences. 

    To nominate someone else, email Brett M. Carpenter (brett.carpenter@ou.edu) or Mike McGlue (mmmc234@g.uky.edu) with a brief statement about why the nominee should be considered.

  • Logo Competition Extended Deadline (11/12/23)

    The Continental Scientific Drilling Division needs a new logo and we are hosting a logo competition open to ANY student GSA member, regardless of division affiliation.

    Please spread the word around your departments as the prize for winning is travel costs* and registration for a future GSA meeting!
