On the 9th of June, the House passed a reauthorization of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration programs (H.R. 4412) for fiscal year 2014. The bill authorized $17.6 billion for the agency, with $1.83 billion allocated for Earth Sciences and $1.35 billion for Planetary Sciences (a slight increase over 2013 levels and higher than the amounts in the President’s budget request). The bill was approved on a bipartisan basis in early May by the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology and passed the House with a short debate period and only two opposing votes (401-2). It was received in the Senate and referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. See “Bipartisan approval for the NASA Authorization Act of 2014” (8 May 2014).
